Action required: preserve Databricks Unity Catalog query audit details

What’s changing

Starting August 26, 2026, Databricks will mask the query_text column in the query_history system table by default.

Query text will be visible only to

  • Databricks account administrators
  • Members of the databricks_pii_access group who also have access to the underlying table or API

Why it matters

Immuta's Databricks Unity Catalog query audit ingests the query text for audit events. If you do not update your Immuta service principal's privileges, Immuta query audit will no longer contain the query text.

Without the required privilege, future Immuta query audit events may:

  • Omit the query text
  • Show query audit events as Indeterminant

Action required

To maintain your current query audit functionality, add the Immuta service principal associated with your Databricks Unity Catalog connection to the databricks_pii_access group in Databricks.

If the group does not already exist, create it by following the Databricks documentation.
