Deprecation notice: fingerprint-based masking options for Snowflake
Immuta is deprecating the following fingerprint-based masking options that are currently available only for Snowflake integrations:
- Format-preserving masking
- Randomized response masking
- Rounding or grouping using a data fingerprint
Rounding or grouping with a customer-specified bucket size are not being deprecated.
These options depend on fingerprinting values from the protected data before applying a mask. Immuta is removing this dependency to improve consistency with its current Snowflake architecture and other supported masking approaches.
What's changing, and when
- Effective now, tenants without existing policies that use these options can no longer create them.
- Existing policies continue to be enforced throughout the deprecation period.
- Support in Immuta SaaS ends December 15, 2026.
What you should do
Identify and replace affected policies before end of life. In most cases, you can replace fingerprint-based rounding with rounding using an explicitly configured bucket size, though you should validate the resulting behavior. Format-preserving masking and randomized response don't have one-to-one replacements, so your Immuta representative will work directly with you to find and validate an alternative.
